Hey guys!
Today I have a recommendation of a class I firmly believe every Sport Management Major should take. Here at FDU a special class is offered during the fall semester, Special Topics in the Sports Industry. This class is taught by Professor Delchop, he is the former head of sales for the New York Red Bulls. This class is taught in person but he switches which campus he teaches at every week. If the class is in person at Metro it is over zoom in the classroom at Florham and vice versa.
Throughout the class we go through an entire sales training process. We learn Business to Business sales tactics, how to effectively make cold calls, and how to present ourselves to future employers. Professor Delchop always makes his classes seem like a discussion rather than a lecture while still providing us with huge amount of information. In the final three weeks of this class we were able to go to Sports Illustrated Stadium (Home of the New York Red Bulls) to learn from their sales staff and make cold calls to people who attended Red Bulls games. This class gave us hands on experience in the sales world and I believe it prepared me for a potential job in sales. The person who instructs the sales class at Sports Illustrated Stadium is the hiring manager for the New York Red Bulls. By taking this class and learning from experienced people it gave everyone multiple opportunities to connect with their staff for potential post grad jobs. Prior to taking this class I had no interest in sales but quickly found out I liked it and was more inclined to look for internships and entry level positions in sales. I hope everyone at FDU takes this recommendation seriously to gain hands on experience and have the chance to learn from Professor Delchop.
Thanks for reading!
